Raw Material

Wood is a living and evolving material.
If well treated, it restores warmth and well-being.

Are you looking for the most suitable window wood?

Fir Wood: Characteristics and Applications

Economical, soft, light wood with low mechanical characteristics. Due to its low resistance to mold, insects and atmospheric agents, it must be protected with an adequate surface treatment. However, it is very stable, and well workable. It is the ideal material for bio-architecture, respect for the environment, the most ecological projects with high energy savings and increased thicknesses.

There are several species of pine; Pino Montano, Pino Silano, Pino Nero, ... and others and finally Pino Silvestre (Pinus Silvestris. L.) which identifies the wood species currently used in carpentry for the construction of windows and rustic furniture. In optimal conditions the tree reaches even 40 meters with a diameter of 70-80cm, and generally straight stem. The growth area is all of northern Europe; from the northernmost tip of the Apennines and up to the Arctic Circle.

For the construction of windows, Danese uses exclusively timber from Sweden, Finland and the north of Russia because the timber grown at those latitudes contains extractives not found in the material that grows at lower latitudes, and therefore has a resistance greater to fungi and chromatic alterations, it also has thin and regular rings and therefore much more homogeneous

In fact, although well selected and worked with advanced techniques, wood will always present a variability of aesthetic and structural characteristics typical of its species, if these characteristics do not compromise the use, functionality, and safety of the window, they must be accepted and above all you understand.

From building temples to furnishing interiors

The bluing (if it is not rotten) can be tolerated, and with a careful processing put in a hidden position, as well as the resin pockets that are repaired if they are not huge, the knots instead if healthy and well adherent as long as they are not grouped or too large (> 30 mm) are also present in sight, for those who want a cleaner material, pine lamellar is available.

As regards the resin it is necessary to remember that even after months or years from installation, due to environmental stresses, around the node or in a fold of the fiber, this will inevitably peep out, and this means that very covering paints or lacquers are to be avoided. Last but not least, consider that the use of pine (at least for Danese) responds to the demand for respect for the environment and eco-sustainable behavior. In the Nordic countries of origin, the use and management of the forest as a renewable resource is in fact a tradition and a way of operating consolidated for decades.

Spruce: The wood of eternal trees

The various characteristics of fir wood, including light color and ductility, find application in the construction of external canopies. This material can in fact be modified and also easily colored or painted. It is widely used for decorations, trusses and beams. The fir is highly appreciated for the timber and allows practical solutions such as, for example, the construction of a garage for the car in case it is not possible to build it in masonry.

This wood is great for soundproofing rooms, for example, a bedroom or a study. Another use is the renovation of old buildings to protect them from humidity, since the fir absorbs it only minimally. Due to its resonance qualities, spruce has been used for centuries for the creation of musical instruments, especially bowed ones such as violins and cellos.
