Wood is a living and evolving material.
If well treated, it restores warmth and well-being.

    Teak: Features and Applications

    Teak wood also for the bathroom

    Furthermore, teak is characterized by a natural, variegated pattern with irregular, wavy streaks. Its structure and composition make it an excellent wood to be used for shipbuilding and as a building ally for the creation of precious and resistant floors. In fact, Teak is immune to insect attacks and is also very resistant to the penetrating and corrosive action of water.

    To the touch it is characterized by a sensation of oiliness and this characteristic makes it a wood widely used also for outdoor flooring, even without the use of preservative treatments. Teak, therefore, is a precious wood with a high cost and sometimes it is replaced by Iroko, Elm, Oak or antiqued Oak, which treated by means of high quality finishes, can achieve very similar characteristics. to those of Teak, but whose overall cost is much lower.

    Resistance

    Teak is therefore one of the most used woods for the production of very resistant, long-lasting parquet. Despite the considerable price, it is preferred among other types of wood precisely for the elegance and resistance that at the same time it manages to give to the premises.

    Teak is characterized by a high hardness, even if, despite the protective finishes applied, it still remains a wood that can be subject to dents due to impacts, or falling objects, or even for the application of concentrated loads on small surfaces or scratches from stiletto heels, nails or pebbles under the soles of the shoes.

    The oxidation process, deriving from exposure to sunlight, causes the change in color of the wood, which sometimes, during the supply phase, cannot bring back the same shades as those chosen in the sampling phase.

    Furthermore, the appearance of the wood varies according to the origin, so for the Teak we are not talking about a unique aspect, but the mineralogical climatic characteristics of the place where the plant grew, the point of collection and the orientation of the chosen trunk, are synonymous with originality and unrepeatability of the wood variants that are part of the same wood essence.

    By evaluating the nature of the artifacts intended for outdoor use, the type of wood and the total or continuous exposure that they must undergo to atmospheric agents, or to the dimensional variations to which they are subjected, in order to allow the efficiency and the functioning of the Teak is compromised, it is necessary to resort to expedients to protect the wood, among which the most common are the following:

    a painting treatment without thickness, i.e. the one performed only with an impregnating agent that deeply penetrates the fibers of the wood, creating a barrier to the action of atmospheric agents and the attack of parasites;

    thick painting treatment, suitable for those elements that have to withstand the action of atmospheric agents for a long time; this consists in creating a layer of just 80-90 microns.

    In any case you proceed, it is necessary that the type of treatment does not compromise the naturalness of the wood itself, protecting and improving the yield with water-based paints, more suitable for outdoor use.

    Price is the only negative aspect of Teak parquet. The rather high cost of this wood strongly limits its use on a large scale, in fact, usually, the market bases its business on synthetic or fake teak, and not strictly on that extracted from trees. Synthetic Teak, in fact, is characterized by low maintenance costs.
